I have been fortunate to travel to many places in this world, and driven in many tuk tuks in South East Asia and India, yet never have I toured in one, or tasted palm fruit, palm sugar or fueled up at a gas bar. Thank you Sotheara for such a memorable journey! We had such fun!

I contacted Sotheara upon arrival in Siem Reap and we organized a three-day tour commencing the next morning. I cannot say enough about his pleasant demeanor and thorough knowledge of Angkor Wat and the surrounding area. Two days of Temple-trekking followed by a day in the floating villages was as good as it gets. Sotheara was a true companion during this Cambodian excursion and should not be missed. A strong work-ethic and his passion for the history radiated throughout the journey. His english language skills are excellent and it is apparent why he is a teacher. I had the pleasure of meeting his wife and two children (one of which was a newborn). His son is extremely clever. A visit to Siem Reap would have never been the same had I not met Sotheara. I found Thera online on Google before departing on our Angkor Wat trip and am so glad I did. He was there to meet us at the airport, took us to a very nice guesthouse, and allowed us to have a very hassle free trip! He's a really nice guy, honest and down to earth, proud of his country and his family. He has a great work ethic and from what I found, really stood out from the rest of the tuk tuk drivers. I knew I could trust whatever he recommended, but he was still open minded enough to go with the flow if we changed our minds. I missed him when we went to Phnom Penh and had to fight off the tuk tuk drivers and we were shocked by how much they were trying to charge us. Thera is very honest and realistic and only asks for what the current going rate is for a tuk tuk driver for the day. My recommendation is not to book any accomodation before you go, when you arrive in Siem Reap and Thera will pick you up and get you set up at a nice place of your choice. I really believe that Thera made our trip more special and I'll always remember him.

We had the pleasure of having Sotheara drive us in and around Siem Reap for 3 days at the end of October, having contacted him through his internet site. Everything worked exactly as agreed upon. Key words: friendly, helpful, punctual, good English, secure driver, knowledgeable, dedicated - all good reasons to recommend him to anyone who will be travelling there. Do take a car with air-conditioning to the temples which are further out. A tuk tuk is perfect for those closer in to town such as Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom although that may depend on the weather.

Greetings! My husband and I have so many wonderful memories of our visit to Seim Reap. We both feel that the reason our trip was so successful was because of Sotheara. My wife and I travelled to Siem Reap last November and had pre-booked Sotheara through this internet website. We booked him for two days, the first to be in the tuk-tuk and the second day in the car. Both days were absolutely wonderful.
Sotheara was mindful of our time constraints and made very useful suggestions on what to see given the time limitations. This included visiting the most important temples in a pattern that maximised our experience. He had a great knowledge of the history of the area and can convey this very well. His command of English is excellent.
We were happy to have taken both forms of transport since they gave different perspectives but my preference would be for the car which was especially welcomed during the warmest part of the day because it’s air-conditioned.
Sotheara also brought us to a road-side stall where the locals make use of the palm tree to make sweets, oil and other derivatives. Brilliant !! The stall was well away from the usual cluster of market shops and the prices for their goods was very keen. Sampling the palm sweets was free.
A further side trip took us on a boat on the Tonel Sap which Sotheara negotiated at a price below what other tourists pay.. and we had the boat entirely to ourselves. Again, a wonderful experience without being hurried.
We booked him to take us to the airport the next morning and he was punctual, as usual.
All in all, Southeara is a great guide, a good driver and a genuinely nice person.
Would I use him again? As we say in Ireland, “Is the Pope a Catholic?” or “ Would a cat eat herrings?” The answer is a definitive YES.

I first met Sotheara in December 2006 and I am so pleased that I did.
On reflection, I can not believe my luck that we linked up, out of all the drivers vying for business I landed one that was a gem. He is polite, fun, efficient, speaks english well, knows the area and the tales behind the tales and above all is a safe driver.
He arranged to take me out to tonle sap, arranged the boat, drinking water, food and acted as my guide for this journey. He also helped me arrange bus transport from Siem Reap to Bangkok and made sure I understood the type of trip I was about to undertake. All of this while he was studying for some English exams.
Pick up and drop off from my hotel was the norm over the four days except when I was riding my bike around the area but after 8 weeks and several thousand cycling kilometres I was happy to sit in the tuk-tuk and be treated like a madame.
His thoughtfulness can not be underestimated and my regret is we did not get to say farewell as his tuk tuk would not start on the last morning and a nephew was sent to take me to the bus in his place.
I look forward to a return to Siem Reap and will certainly look him up as a friend and a driver - that's the sort of relationship I felt that I left behind.

We found Sotheara online and booked him as driver for our 5-day-stay in Siem reap in March 2008 and we had no regret to our decision. He waited for us at the airport and we had a great time in Siem Reap with him. He is very honest, reliably and knows everything about the country and the history of Angkor and Cambodia. He speaks a very good English and drives very save. Due to his proposed itineries for our visit to the different temples, we could avoid the bus crowds.

We had three days in Siem Reep during February 2008 and before leaving the UK we contacted Sothearas through his web site to arrange for him to drive us around during our visit. He replied immediately to our request and arranged for his cousin, Vuthey to meet us at our hotel on our first morning. At 9 am Vuthey was waiting for us with his Tut-Tut and took us around the temple complex surrounding Angkor Wat. Vuthey spoke good English and was very courteous and helpful to us throughout our visit and was very happy for us to spend as much time as we wanted to at the temples. He also waited in the evenings to take us to our chosen restaurant and return us to our hotel at the end of the evening. On our second day we went by car to the temples on the big circuit and also to Tonie Sap Lake. He was a considerate and safe driver. On our third day we went to Angkor Wat itself and spent a long time looking round and we also returned later that day to see the temple at sunset. Vuthey took us to restaurants at lunchtime on all days where we had very good food. We would recommend without hesitation the services of Sothearas and his family. We had a wonderful three days, made so easy by the helpful and friendly services of Vuthey.

I very highly recommend Theara when you visit Angkor and the surrounding temples. His professionalism, courtesy and kindness are outstanding. He was punctual in all instances, accomodating to a fault and recommended lots of fantastic options in terms of not only how to visit the temples, but the best time for doing so. This is important in order to avoid the massive tour crowds and to capture the ideal lighting for photography. On top of that, I enjoyed trying the local cuisine (delicious!) with Theara's enthusiastic suggestions, though if your preference is more conventional, that's perfectly fine too. The sugar palm candy tour was a delightful experience on the way to one of the more outlying temples. The car was impeccably clean, and Theara was an extremely cautious and responsible driver, getting you to where you wanted to go safely. I never felt safer and completely at ease with him. He makes sure you feel at home from the get go, which is always welcome when you've travelled a long way from home. My mother and I were in Siem Reap for 4 days and I had stumbled across Thera's website a couple of months before we left. As this was our first visit to Cambodia, and the testimonials on Thera's website were so great, I thought I would see if he was available during our time there. I am so glad I did. My family and I visited Siem Reap for five days from the end of June to early July 2008. I was wary of booking on-line, but, as my wife pointed out , if we were not happy after the first day we could say goodbye and forget it. The idea never entered our head from the moment we met.
Theara is a pleasure to be with, he has excellent English, a thorough knowledge of the city he lives in, knows all the places to visit and the places to avoid. We were very glad that we booked a tuk-tuk driver before coming to Cambodia. Although Sotheara was busy for our trip, he recommended us a friend of his with a tuk-tuk. He was very friendly, reliable and helpful, everyhting worked perfectly. We found the biggest benefit of booking ahead over internet (or SMS in fact) to be the convenience - somebody picked us up at the airport, we did not have to loose any time with any arrangements and could enjoy the temples.

We had arranged via email for Thera to drive us but he emailed us a couple of days before we arrived in Cambodia to say he's been in hospital with kidney stones and would be unable to drive us. He arranged for his friend to drive us instead. His friend was fantastic.
Obviously we wish Thera the very best of luck. His email communication was first rate, he returned emails promptly and made the arrangements for a replacement driver when he was unable to drive us.

We had planned our next vacation in September/October 2008 to go again to South-East Asia.
This time it should go over Bangkok/Thailand to Siem Reap/Cambodia and finally to Koh Chang Island/Thailand.
During our travel planning and searching the internet for informations about our destinations we found Sotheara’s website www.angkorwat-driver.com. The completely positive informations to be found on this page and testimonials of other customers has arranged us to send an enquiry to Sotheara to book his services for our stay of a total of 3 days in Cambodia.
He was immediately ready to accompany and taking care for us during our stay.
With our arrival at the Airport in Siem Reap we were already picked up by Sotheara and brought to our hotel. He already had a plan for our sightseeing trips of the coming days.
First an excursion was planned in the afternoon to the Tonle Sap lake with visit of the floating villages. Sotheara picked us up at the hotel and we went through Siem Reap to direction of Tonle Sap Lake. By strong rainfall (it was, finally - monsoon time) the main road was completely flooded. The water level was up to ½ metre high. Very noteworthy - Sotheara in spite of the traffic conditions has gone on. Then we made a boat excursion organised by him to the floating villages of the Vietnamese people. He accompanied us all the time and, besides, was always a pleasant and helpful guide. Sotheara could meet our desire for the evening visit of a place with traditional, Cambodia dance and food. He recommended us a nearby restaurant in the main road in Siem Reap.
For the 2nd day the visit of the temple areas of Angkor Thom and Angkor Wat was planned. For this purpose Sotheara has procured his friend Boon as a tourist guide for us. However, first we went to the helicopter landing field of the Sokha Helicopters to start the already booked flight about the gigantic area of Angkor Wat, the floating villages and the Rolous group, while our both guides stayed behind and waited for us.
The flight itself was fantastic and with it the best prelude to our sightseeing tour following afterwards as well. Boon accompanied us as a temple guide and told us in English a lot about the history of the historical buildings during Sotheara stayed behind at the particular temple and waited at his car for our return. At noon a break was made in one of many restaurants in the temple area.
On the 3rd day we visited other facilities like Preah Khan and Ta Prohm, always accompanied by our both guides. Sotheara was always very attentive, and, besides, had itself always a stock of drinks for us. Before our takeoff Sotheara still accompanied us to a souvenir shop where we could acquire relatively reasonably some memories. After that he drove us still to the airport.
Result of our visit in Cambodia: We can really recommend Sotheara and his friend Boon with his services without limitation and would just make it next time again. We wish them for the future all the best. Maybe they will see us once again.

I would like to thank Southera for his excellent service! I immediately felt at home with him from our first meeting at the airport. He responded promptly to my emails and was able to arrange whatever tour I was looking for. His command of english was excellent, and combined with his good humor and very friendly nature, I knew I was with a fantastic tour guide. He had arranged to pick me up at the airport & he was with me until the day he dropped me off. He was a very funny guy who has a vast amount of information for his guests. I was able to see parts of Siem Reap, that would have otherwise been impossible for anyone without his knowledge. During my 3 and a half days with him I was able to see some of the most beautiful country and people in the world! I would most certainly recommend anyone to visit Cambodia. It is one of the most magical spots anywhere in the world! The people of the country are so very gracious and generous!!! I would most certainly return for another visit. I would also highly recommend Southera to anyone - his prices were fantastic and he provided so much fun and enjoyment during my visit that he quickly became a friend. He really made this such a nice trip, I cannot imagine having another tour guide! For those interested - the food was amazingly good wherever we went! Simply amazing!

My daughter and I have just returned home from a a very memorable 3 week trip to Thailand and Cambodia.
Memorable in part because of the people one meets along the way. One of these people was Thera. This was not a chance meeting as we had seen his web site while browsing the web in preparation for our trip. We were impressed with his testimonials and immediately made contact in hopes that he would be available . We were very fortunate to have been able to hire him as he made our 3 1/2 days in Siem Reap so enjoyable and stress free. He would always arrive promptly with a big smile on his face and the day planned. He is soft spoken, professional, excellent English and his knowledge of the sites and country was exemplory. Always willing to pull over to the side of the road so that we might hop out to take that picture we didn't want to go home without. He found us a hotel closer to the center of town, checked for occupancy, and moved us over.

We highly recommend Theara and his team! We stayed in Siem Reap for 5 days and we enjoyed everyday of it. We have travelled to many places in South East Asia with guides and he was really a breath of fresh air. He is not a normal Guide & Driver. His knowledge about the History & Culture of Cambodia is excellent and not forgetting his command of the English Language. With a good sense of humour and a good understanding of other countries culture and preferences, he is able to quickly understand and meet our perculier demands throughout the trip. My wife, two teenage daughters and I visited Cambodia in mid-June this year and found Koung Sotheara through the Net. I was highly impressed with his testimonials and actually went to the trouble of following up with three of them. I will not repeat the countless words of praise that Theara has received from others – just read any of the glowing testimonials on this site - all of them are true. He lived up to his reputation in every way and I would not hesitate to recommend him to you if you ever visit Siam Reap and need his assistance.

I just want to focus on two things which might help you get a better insight into him as a professional and as a person. First, besides being outstanding at his job and a really nice guy, I was particularly impressed because he went out of his way to recommend us things NOT to do e.g. visiting the Angkor National Museum which he said was not worth the $12 entrance charge and hiring a guide (he recommended we use his own guide book and it worked out really well) – even though he could have made more money himself by negotiating a guide for us. Second, I was particularly touched when I found that he volunteered his time at a local orphanage teaching English to the kids – a powerful example to us who have so much more and yet do barely enough for those who are in need. We made a small contribution to help the orphanage which was entirely voluntary – Theara never asked for it or put any kind of pressure on us to contribute. We just felt it was the right thing to do.
